Presidential Quotes On Poverty

The test of our progress in not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much: it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.
-Franklin D. Roosevelt-

If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.
-John F. Kennedy-

The richest nation on earth can afford to win the war on poverty.
-Lindon B. Johnson-

I am asking you "What happened? Nothing seems to have changed and
we are in the year 2008".

What happened? The same thing that happened when the feds started pressuring the banks to hand out high-risk mortgages to anyone who wanted one.

The government is woefully inefficient and dunderheaded and it's actually gotten worse over the years. Want proof? It took four years for the U.S. and her allies to clobber the Nazis and Imperial Japanese 60 years ago. Now, we're waging war (that we probably shouldn't be involved in) and seem clueless as to how to put an end to it. Pitiful.

Maria,
What happened is that the New Deal and its successor Great Society was suborned by the neocons (i.e., Republicans) who ran the legislative process for most of the past 30 years, and who ALWAYS supports the wealthy at the expense of everyone else.
