Women are the carriers of culture as they are the primary teacher to their children during their formative years so by educating women you insure that the knowledge will be shared and passed on. In many cultures all over the world the man is the primary source of income and therefore does not have the time to share the knowledge he learns with as many people. Everyone should be educated for the betterment of all societies.
There are many societies that still consider women to be second-class individuals. Lack of education is the main reason women are on unequal footing in those places. Certainly, fundamental Muslim communities which only educate males are a prime example.
